1. My little sister is getting married this weekend. It's SO much fun to be going through a wedding that isn't your own, and it is
so much work. It's my favorite kind of work, make no mistake, but it's work nonetheless. Last weekend's lingerie shower precludes this week's 5-sister movie date (we're lucky and we know it), bachelorette party, pedicure appointment, rehearsal dinner, and of course, the blessed event. I'm rocking a head cold and an 8-week old, so I'm pretty much the most fun and most matronly of all matrons of honor. And did I mention my size enormous David's bridal frock is nursing friendly? Or at least, I've made some adjustments to make it so.
Anyway, I bought 5 bottles of
this at Costco this morning. So we're pretty much set.
2. I have the kind of cold that makes you feel like you've been kicked in the mouth and taken a baseball to the septum, so I've been searching for various and sundry breast-feeding kosher remedies, and basically the options are:
|
Sensible saline. |
|
Tea towel sauna. |
4. I'm counting that last unfortunate round up of images as number 3. Currently I'm sitting on the couch, nursing a glass of aforementioned prosecco, and willing numbness into my teeth and forehead.
5. But at least I've got
these to shimmy into, come Saturday.
I did extensive research and then dropped $70 at Target on several hideous looking garments promising to make all my wildest dreams come true. Or at least, to grease the entry into my size i'llnevertell bridesmaid dress, and ensure a tight and reliable ziiiiip.
Hallie for life, y'all. Via
Christy. See you there.
We used those slimmers all the time when I worked in theatre! I won't wear a dress without something like it anymore. You kind of feel like a sausage getting into them, but a quality one really does help.
ReplyDeleteMy friend just gave me Costco Prosecco.... SO GOOD! I hope you feel better before the wedding!!! I am a big fan of nose drops! The drops, more than the spray melts everything away in seconds for me. Get some sleep. Being sick with a new baby... oh man. I really hope you feel better soon. Very very soon.
ReplyDeleteThough I did just wish all hosiery to hell recently... I will say I'm a fan of garments that do the tummy-taming and all that. Be sure to take pictures--I didn't know you had five sisters! As my dad said of his three daughters: "The estrogen just drips off the walls."
ReplyDeleteI'm laughing out loud here. The way you put things! "Grease myself into my size i'llnevertell bridesmaid dress." Thanks for almost making my coffee come out of my nose! :)
DeleteMy son is getting married this Saturday, too. And I woke up today slightly ongested with a sore throat, so now I'm worried I'll be full-blown sick by the big day. I'll pray for you, and please pray for me.
Mary, that wasn't supposed to be a reply to your above comment, it was just a comment for Jenny--I'm still figuring out how to work the comboxes!
DeleteHave fun! I'm sure you'll look lovely.
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats to your sister! Weddings are so awesome.
Sympathies regarding the head cold! I have awful sinuses and am far too familiar with what you're going through. I wish I had a sure-fire remedy to offer you, but the best I've ever come across is Mucinex, and I don't know if you can take that while nursing. Good luck! And have fun this week/weekend, despite the blasted cold.
ReplyDeleteSorry you aren't feeling well! Maybe all the festivities will help you forget about your cold and your sausage casing! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon! I had a sinus infection for a good two weeks when my babes were about that age and it was the worst. I did end up taking just one phenylephrine but I don't know how much it did, anyway.
ReplyDeleteI wish I still had sisters that were getting married - family weddings are SO FUN!!! Enjoy yourself and don't worry about the cold - you won't be able to breathe in those garment shapers anyway ;)
ReplyDeleteGo with the SinuMed rinse. Seriously. I swear by that thing when I'm sick. Also, check with your doctor, but I think I recall that plain Mucinex is okay when nursing.
ReplyDeleteOof, nothing worse than a cold when you can't take anything... I've had REALLY good luck with apple cider vinegar for anything resembling a cold - heat 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar and dissolve 2-4 tbsp honey in it, serve over ice and top off with water. It's TOTALLY safe for a nursing mom and works wonders on me within a couple of days, plus it doesn't involve shoving anything up my nose! It tastes a liiiiittle bit vile, and some people add cayenne pepper and say it's awesome but honestly, the honey and vinegar is enough for me!
ReplyDeleteI would endure some spandex just to get out of the daily routine and go to a wedding, or be in a wedding. They're really so much fun - I hope you have a wonderful time, I know you will look beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAs silly as it is, the nose sauna (with chamomille tea to inhale) really does work. And spanx are awesome! I hope you can go and have a great time!
ReplyDeleteI was a bridesmaid at 10 weeks postpartum and you betcha I was in a sausage casing. Also my sister didn't pick her bridesmaid dresses until I was 8.5 months pregnant... So I ordered superduper size and had it taken in the week of. I've almost forgiven her... Have fun! And enjoy everyone else wanting to hold the baby so you can dance!!
ReplyDeletehope the wedding was fun. i had the sinus cold monster as well and did the nasal rinse a lot. nothing like a self-inflicted drowning. i also contemplated extracting several molars to relieve pressure. you have my sympathy.
