I picked up KL once and got scared off in a page or two by the laborious names but my mom's been pestering me to read it for forever so maybe I will. I am actually just in the middle of - and very much enjoying - Ida Elisabeth, also by Undset. Based on your observations and my own experience with this book, I suspect Undset has a talent for making mothers a bit weepy. Anyhow, I recommend Ida Elisabeth too - still lots of crazy Norwegian names but not quite as wild since it's set in the modern era!Eliesehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11692724729434331408noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1669762298855511295.post-10234494764897787822014-03-11T21:24:38.355-06:002014-03-11T21:24:38.355-06:00Oops, autocorrect, Brede. That book has stuck with me and was sort of a life changer (just in terms of giving me a new lens on the things I was already doing - family, Catholicism, living liturgically, being a wannabe homesteader...). I cannot say enough good things about it. I think maybe it is time for a reread this summer!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1669762298855511295.post-56343626555106361742014-03-11T17:05:19.036-06:002014-03-11T17:05:19.036-06:00I'm going to have to get that book, with my ol...I'm going to have to get that book, with my oldest son getting ready to graduate from high school and fly the nest. A bittersweet moment for sure. We were talking about his baby days just the other night and it made me choke up a little to see a man sitting before me and remember my sweet baby who wouldn't leave my side.Krishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02999838147173390906noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1669762298855511295.post-87717336423766761502014-03-11T16:59:08.561-06:002014-03-11T16:59:08.561-06:00Yes! If House of Brede (another book about women, I hear) weren't next in my queue, I'd read it again now, since I first read it the year I married. I'm with you on the little boy caught between babyhood and boy land... every day during his tantrums I say how much I hate this phase, and every night with his cuddles and lingering hugs, I say how much I don't want this phase to end.
